Hello to those in the U.K.! My name is Joe and I am a Green Bay Packers fan.
So why them? Well pretty simple: I grew up in the state of Wisconsin and they are the ‘local’ team. I was about eight or nine years old when I first started watching the NFL and the Packers. Under the leadership of General Manager Ron Wolf and Head Coach Mike Holmgren, the Packers were emerging as a contender in the league after 25-years of mostly being irrelevant.
My favorite player was quarterback Brett Favre. I wore my Favre jersey that I got as a present one year every chance I got! My other favorite players were running back Edgar Bennett (who I got an autograph from when he made an appearance at a local show), wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, and defensive end Reggie White. Certainly one of my favorite memories was watching the Packers claim the Lombardi Trophy by winning Super Bowl XXXI. And I’ve been a die-hard fan ever since!
The Packers are the only publicly-owned team in the NFL. About a decade ago, they did a stock sale. Well, I jumped at the opportunity to buy a share of my favorite team. So I am officially a part-owner of the Packers (one out of 360,760 people).
Aside from the Packers and the NFL, I also follow a wide range of sports including basketball, hockey, and baseball. In recent years, I have started following European soccer more, especially the Premier League. My adopted team is Everton FC. Go Blues!
I enjoy discussing sports on Twitter so if you have a question or comment on just about any sport, feel free to find me: it doesn’t just have to be limited to the NFL. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy my articles.
